Devereux Millwood Learning Center - About the Center
The Devereux Millwood Learning Center is the first and only school in the Lower Hudson Valley providing individualized educational programs for children with autism using the scientifically based methodology of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA provides a structured learning environment tailored to each child's unique learning abilities and incentives required for their sustained attention and interest. The paramount principle of ABA is that every individual has the capacity to learn. Through the guidance of intensive observation and data collection the progress of learning can be verified and modified as needed.
Now in its eighteenth year, the Devereux Millwood Learning Center is an innovative school which serves the educational needs of 48 students, ages five to twenty one through both an academic and a vocational curriculum.
Devereux Adult Day Habilitation Program
As students began graduating from DMLC FECA again partnered with Devereux to create the Devereux Adult Day Habilitation Program which currently provides 18 young men with the opportunity for a variety of community inclusion experiences including an array of volunteer sites across the county. FECA continues to provide support with the purchase of additional vans, salary incentive programs for staff and most recently the ONEE program which will provide extensive assistance in developing new and expanded opportunities to further skills through new volunteer opportunities.
The program currently provides a talented and experienced job coach for every three participants in the program who travel in vans throughout the county to volunteer sites and other community inclusion and recreational experiences.
